Hundreds of Stevenage residents flocked to the Christmas Market at the Oval shopping centre in Martins Wood last Saturday (10 Dec). Organised by the Oval Community Centre Association and Labour Councillor Sarah Walker, the day of fun lifted the spirits of local people.
Father Christmas’s reindeers came to visit, children played in the snow, shop staff and local Labour councillors donned fancy dress costumes, and people browsed the festive stalls.
Stevenage Borough Council Leader, Sharon Taylor, who opened the event, said,
“It’s a wonderful sight to see everyone having a day out in their own neighbourhood. It has made all the hard work worthwhile to see the children’s delight at the reindeer. In these difficult times, we must work extra hard to keep the magic of Christmas for children.”
